Technical Lead

Lane Cove, Sydney or Surrey Hills, MelbourneFull-timeSenior

About the Role

We are looking for a Technical Lead to own the design and development of new products from concept through to production. Working within our engineering team, you will lead the technical delivery of NetComm’s industry-leading telecommunications devices, bringing the technical judgement and industry best practice that make our products perform, last and compete on cost.

What You’ll Do

As Technical Lead, you will take ownership of a product through its full development life cycle, from requirements and architecture through to validation and release, working closely with our Hardware, Software, Product Management and Project Management teams. Reporting to the Engineering Director, you will set the technical direction for your product and make sound, timely design decisions as you take on products of increasing scale and complexity.

About NetComm

At NetComm, we’ve been connecting the world for over 40 years - designing and building innovative broadband products that connect homes, businesses, and industries across the globe. From Fixed Wireless to Fibre Extension and Home Networks, our technology keeps people connected where it matters most.

Our mission is to listen to our customers and apply bold, innovative thinking to solve complex problems and connect the world.

Responsibilities

  • Own the design and development of your product throughout the full development life cycle, from concept to production.
  • Drive the capture of product requirements and specifications in collaboration with Product Management, Engineering and external teams, and ensure the product stays compliant throughout development.
  • Lead the development of product architecture, weighing up the available design options to strike a sound balance of cost, performance and complexity.
  • Work with Project Management to plan and manage timelines, accounting for internal and external dependencies and communicating changes clearly to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to our product roadmaps, keeping up to date with industry trends and developments.
  • Work with other teams across Engineering to identify and clear technical roadblocks.
  • Identify risks early, form contingency plans and escalate emerging issues to senior engineering staff and management when needed.
  • Make sound and timely technical decisions, drawing on senior engineering staff for decisions with broad or long-term impact.
  • Build effective relationships with customers and suppliers, providing technical expertise as required.
  • Keep internal stakeholders aligned on deliverables through clear progress reporting and presentations.
  • Be transparent with the team about challenges, failures and successes.
  • Bring NetComm’s mission to life – to listen, innovate, solve, and connect – and live our signature behaviours every day.

Requirements

  • Hands-on experience designing and delivering products across concept, design, validation and production, gained over significant years in product development within telecommunications, hardware or connected-device development.
  • Bachelor’s degree in electronic engineering, computer science or a related field.
  • Strong technical, diagnostic and troubleshooting skills, and the judgement to know when to escalate.
  • Developing leadership and organisational abilities, with a willingness to take responsibility for outcomes.
  • Well organised and detail oriented, able to set and manage priorities across your own projects.
  • Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment whilst remaining calm and measured.
  • Strong communication, motivational and interpersonal skills, with the ability to tailor messaging from engineer to executive.
  • Willingness to build professional relationships with internal and external stakeholders to remove roadblocks and reach goals.
  • Able to make decisions based on facts, collaboration and management direction.
  • Relevant certification or software/platform training is a nice to have, not essential. Hands-on product development experience matters more to us.
